# Product Catalog

## What is a product?

A **product** in the catalog is a reusable definition of something you sell — its name, display name, description, and ERP mapping. Products are not charges on their own; when you add a product to a contract, Tabs creates a **billing term** with pricing, cadence, and schedule configured for that customer.

## Product fields

**Name** Required: Internal catalog name used to identify the product in Tabs.

**Display name**: Customer-facing name that appears on invoice line items. Defaults to **Name** if left blank.

**Description** Optional: Additional context that can appear on the invoice.

**Integration item** Optional: Maps this product to an item in your ERP. Determines ERP account impact when invoices sync.

**Integration class** Optional: Maps this product to a class in your ERP, if your ERP uses classes (for example, QuickBooks Class).

When you assign a product to a billing term, Tabs copies the display name, description, integration item, and integration class onto the term. You can override any of those values on the billing term without changing the catalog entry.

Billing configuration — cadence, pricing, invoice timing, and discounts — lives on billing terms. See [Billing](/billing) for those settings.

Service period and revenue recognition dates are configured under [Revenue Dates](/revenue-dates).
